Happy New Year!

Monday 4 January, 2021

Happy New Year everyone! We hope you all had a Happy Christmas and a restful holiday. This term is going to be jam packed full of fun learning activities and enquiry opportunities across the curriculum. ‘Space’ is our topic. The children will learn more about the universe: the planets, the moon, the sun and we will answer questions such as ‘Why do we have night and day?’ and ‘Why do we have seasons?’’. The history and future of space exploration will be looked at, as well as discovering what life might be like as an astronaut – can’t wait! Our main English text is ‘The Jamie Drake Equation’ written by Christopher Edge. The book is about a boy whose father is an astronaut orbiting Earth in the International Space Station. One day in the observatory, Jamie picks up a strange signal – could it be aliens? Are they closer to Earth than people realise? Jamie has to investigate and possibly become a hero. This exciting narrative will allow plenty of writing opportunities such as: writing diary entries, space reports, alien descriptions, Space survival guides, as well as some space poetry. In maths, we will continue with fractions, as there is still so much more we need to know. Multiplying and dividing fractions and finding fractions of amounts will be included in the learning this term. After that, we will move on to some geometry with a focus on direction and position. P.E. will take place on Wednesday, so please ensure all children bring a water bottle and come to school dressed in P.E. kit (including trainers). We are excited about this term and are looking forward to a great 2021. If you have any questions or would like to speak with us. Please contact us through Class Dojo and we will assist in any way we can. Take care! Anna Cole, Sarah Brownlow and Kim Williams

Adventure stories!

'MIDDLEWORD' is the name of the fantastic, adventure story we have been reading in class. Set in the rainforest, Max and Lola soon find themselves lost and alone in a land of jaguars, giant spiders and deadly snakes. Osprey class were inspired to write their own chapter for this story. Not only did they have to think about the plot, characters, story problem and it's resolution, they also had to include a range of cohesive devices, create suspense and ensure their narrative was exciting. They ALL worked very hard - we are very PROUD teachers!

Building up a character profile within a chapter

Friday 13 November, 2020

The children are really enjoying this story. We were really pleased with their writing this week and want to showcase some of their excellent, imaginative work! Max has been sent an aeroplane ticket to San Javier and told to board it immediately. His parents are there but missing! What has happened to them? Why hasn't he heard from them? Osprey class were asked to write their own part of a chapter (where Max boards the plane) and build a character profile within it. They had to think about Max's appearance, character, hobbies and interests. Can you picture Max - the type of boy he is, what he looks like? What is he thinking and feeling too? Please enjoy reading some of their work!
