National Windrush day

Monday 22 June, 2020

Today is National Windrush day. It is a time for us to think about the generation of families who moved from the Caribbean to live and work in Britain at the end of WW2. There are some video clips here that you may want to show your child and talk about this important day. This is only the second national Windrush day but without their courage and hard work the NHS would not be the amazing organisation it is today and certainly it would have taken Britain much longer to recover from WW2.

At a time when we are all thinking about anti-racism, and the Black Lives Matter movement, as well as thanking the NHS for their role in fighting Coronavirus it seems even more appropriate to be remembering Windrush day this year.
